Provide free education and guidance about veganism in Puerto Rico and to the worldwide Spanish speaking community
Casa Vegana de la Comunidad grew out of the food relief efforts of Chilis on Wheels and its founder Michelle Carrera, in Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria in 2017. With the help of Cindy Negrón, and her Veganízalo project, they prepared and served vegan meals in nursing homes, orphanages, domestic violence shelters and to communities that had been left without essential service after the hurricane hit.
Michelle envisioned a community house that would serve as a center for storing, cooking, packaging, meals and donations. In addition, a place where people could attend workshops on veganism and sustainability at no cost. From there, the Casa Vegana de la Comunidad project took shape, with its community headquarters in the city of San Juan. The organization officially opened its doors on March 17, 2018 with a screening of the documentary Cowspiracy.

What is a VegFest? It is a festival that brings people together from everywhere to enjoy a day of veganism from food to local and handmade no harm to animal products. Puerto Rico is known for our vibrant music so the tradition will play its part at the festival!
Many people are not aware of how many vegans are in Puerto Rico. Puerto Rico plays a part in our vegan world. There are many artisans, food vendors, natural doctors, and farmers. There will also be other exciting additions and special guests. The cause of this event is veganism and community support.
We are a group that are vegans and non-vegans that share one very important view. We all want to help better not just Puerto Rico but our world!
